The City of Oceanside is currently accepting applications for the position of Mechanical Technologist. The City will be filling two positions at the I or II level, depending on qualifications.
Monthly Salary Ranges:
Mechanical Technologist I
4,604-6,167
Mechanical Technologist II
4,827-6,476
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Inspects, troubleshoots, repairs and overhauls a wide variety of water/wastewater equipment such as mechanical comminutors, bar screens, air compressors, mixers, tanks, blowers, valves, filters, piping systems, pumps, generators, motors, metering devices and chemical feed equipment; conducts regular inspections of equipment; performs preventive
maintenance on equipment; performs gas and arc welding; fabricates a variety of treatment plant parts; installs and aligns heavy motors and equipment; constructs plant engineering changes in accordance with plans; operates a variety of maintenance, repair, pneumatic and hydraulic power tools in a safe and effective manner; prepares periodic reports and cost
evaluations related to plant preventative maintenance programs; repairs and maintains piston, centrifugal, hydraulic, turbine and diaphragm pumps; operates heavy equipment; performs safety requirements to meet local and Federal standards; may train other department personnel; performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
MECHANICAL TECHNOLOGIST I
Experience: One year of general mechanical experience.
Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by training in mechanical technology or a related field.
License, Certificate:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class B California Driver’s License within 12 months of employment and maintain Class B California Driver’s License for duration of employment in this position.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a CWEA Grade I Mechanical Technologist certification within 24 months of employment and maintain current certification for duration of employment in this position.
MECHANICAL TECHNOLOGIST II
Experience: Two years of experience as a Mechanical Technologist I
Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by training in mechanical technology or a related field.
License or Certificate:
Possession of a valid Class B California Driver’s License is required while assigned to this position.
Possession of a CWEA Grade II Mechanical Technologist certification prior to appointment and maintain current certification for duration of employment in this position.
