The City of Oceanside is accepting applications for Environmental Specialist I/II. There are currently two vacancies within the Water Utilities Department, Solid Waste and Recycling Program.

Monthly Salary Ranges:
Environmental Specialist I: $4,890 – $6,554
Environmental Specialist II: $5,391 – $7,225

These positions will be responsible for implementing the City’s Zero Waste and SB 1383 Compliance Action Plan and for the daily administration of the City’s Solid Waste and Recycling Franchise Agreement.   The ideal candidate will perform a variety of professional, field, administrative, and analytical work on a daily basis in close coordination with a high functioning and fast paced team. Job functions may include, but are not limited to: developing and implementing public awareness and community engagement campaigns; providing customer service support relative to commercial, multifamily and residential solid waste and recycling services; school or intergenerational focused sustainability education with an emphasis on working with disadvantaged communities; sustainable food system and green business programming; serve as a City liaison with community groups, stakeholders, and internal committees; analyze data and develop corresponding reports; analyze policies, legislation, and regulations and their impacts to the program and compliance methods; conduct inspections/waste assessments; assist in contract management to insure compliance with state regulations; respond to inquiries from the public; and prepare and administer grant funds.  The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years of professional experience in public/utility service, contract administration, regulatory compliance, public education and outreach or related experience in similar fields, with a preference in direct experience with solid waste and recycling, zero waste, environmental justice/sustainable food systems and/or general sustainability/climate action programming.

This position may have teleworking options available after an initial training period.
