The Senior Accountant with the San Diego County Water Authority supports the larger areas of financial reporting and capital asset and Capital Improvement Program (CIP) activities for the Water Authority. In addition, this position performs complex professional accounting work in the analysis, preparation, and maintenance of financial records and reports. This is the advanced journey-level position in the accountant series, and assists the Accounting Supervisor with oversight of the monthly and annual closing of the books and accounting for capital assets, and preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) including collaboration with other departments and external auditors.
The ideal candidate has a strong technical background and experience in preparing financial statements and footnotes and performing capital assets accounting, including a thorough understanding of municipal or private sector accounting practices and internal controls. In addition, this person engages in continuous learning and stays abreast GASB or equivalent private sector pronouncements. Experience with PeopleSoft financial software is desirable.

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting, finance, business administration or a closely related field supplemented by two years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience, preferably in a public utility or enterprise fund agency. A current license as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is highly desirable.
