This position will be paid $28.08 per hour.  The work schedule is approximately 20 hours per week, Monday – Thursday, not to exceed an average of 29 hours per week or 999 hours in a fiscal year.  All Vallecitos Water District employees are at-will.  This position is not eligible for insurance benefits, retirement benefits, or vacation leave.  All employees receive sick leave hours under terms required by California law.  Further benefits are documented on the Benefits tab.

DEFINITION
Under supervision, performs a variety of routine warehouse duties including inventory maintenance, shipping, receiving, and storing of equipment, materials, and parts; provides purchasing assistance; performs related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Receives, inspects, stores, issues, and tracks equipment, parts, materials, and supplies; verifies shipments against purchase orders and shipping documents; assigns stock numbers and barcodes; maintains inventory records in computerized systems; researches discrepancies; tracks inventory usage by job and project; and communicates item availability to District staff.
  • Maintains warehouse, vehicle, and fuel inventories, including establishing and monitoring stock levels, performing cycle counts and physical inventories, tracking warranty items, maintaining fuel system records, and identifying inventory or fueling discrepancies.
  • Purchases inventory and special-order items; prepares and monitors purchase requisitions, pick lists, shipping and receiving documentation, and return shipments; coordinates vendor pickups and deliveries; and picks up materials and supplies from vendors as assigned.
  • Maintains the warehouse and yard in a safe, secure, clean, and organized condition; monitors hazardous material storage and disposal activities; cleans minor hazardous material spills; reports safety concerns and hazardous spills; operates forklifts, vehicles, and related equipment for the transport, loading, and unloading of materials and supplies.
  • Performs routine administrative and clerical duties, including preparing correspondence, reports, records, vendor lists, purchase requisitions, pick lists, and other warehouse-related documentation, and responding to telephone inquiries.
  • Operates copiers and a variety of office equipment; utilizes various computer software and programs required for the work;
  • Performs duties in a timely and professional manner and works well with others or in a team setting; establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships;
  • Regular attendance and adherence to prescribed work schedule to conduct job responsibilities;
  • Observes safe work practices and safety methods; performs other duties as assigned.

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS

Ideal Candidate Traits

  • Experience in receiving, storing, and issuing parts in a warehouse environment.
  • Already has a forklift certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete all work accurately and on time without direct supervision.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Warehousing and inventory principles and practices; inventory and record-keeping methods;
  • Proper warehouse safety and security procedures;
  • Office equipment and computer software;
  • Methods for identifying and sourcing vendors for stock items;
  • Principles and practices of receiving, storing, and issuing parts and supplies;
  • Basic math;
  • Tools, parts, and supplies commonly used by a water/wastewater utility.

Ability to:

  • Receive, count, inspect, store, and issue warehouse items; maintain accurate records, inventory controls, and stock replacement procedures;
  • Evaluate the quality and price of available parts and supplies;
  • Understand and follow written and oral instructions; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; complete assignments independently without immediate supervision;
  • Use office equipment and computer software;
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of the work;
  • Perform manual work in lifting/moving stock and maintaining a clean, orderly work area;
  • Operate a variety of warehouse related equipment, including forklift, to transport items to various locations;
  • Operate standard office equipment and computer; perform general clerical work.

Education & Experience

Any combination of education or experience that would likely provide the necessary knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain these knowledge and abilities would be: high school graduation or equivalent, and;

  • 6 months of experience with computers, word processing, and spreadsheet software;
  • One year of experience in maintaining or tracking inventory for a warehouse.

Licenses, Certificates, and Special Requirements

  • Possession of a Class C California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
